Therapy Costs and Treatment Duration Nelson
The fee for a standard 50-minute session (covering your full appointment length) is $150 (including GST)
Concessions may be available for individuals on low income or experiencing special circumstances. If session fees are a concern, you are welcome to raise this when making contact so we can discuss options.
Understanding Treatment Duration
The length of therapy varies depending on the nature of the difficulties being addressed, the goals of treatment, and the depth of work a person wishes to undertake.

Couples with acute stressors might respond to several sessions of treatment. More often, couples' work reflects core relational patterns and habits that have been in operation for many years. Realistically, this requires at least some months of treatment before meaningful change occurs. Family work is much harder to predict - change can sometimes occur quickly, but will be hard to maintain. A more intensive initial episode of several sessions, followed by a period of more-spaced out sessions, or successive intermittent episodes seem to work best with what is manageable and engaging for families.

Debriefing sessions are generally conducted as a single session following the incident. In some circumstances, one or two follow-up sessions may be helpful to support ongoing adjustment.

Short-term, targeted groups focusing on specific skills or themes usually run between 1 and 10 sessions.

Ongoing therapy groups tend to have a more gradual and pervasive impact. Many participants begin to notice meaningful shifts after several months of consistent participation.
